Web hosts supportive of legitimate opt-in email marketing aren’t easy to find. Email marketing is a touchy subject, especially with shared hosts, since one bad campaign will affect other users significantly. Some hosts prefer to avoid sending list email altogether and only allow a few hundred messages per day. We’ve managed to find a few web hosts and server providers that take a reasonable approach to opt-in email marketing.
Shared Web Hosting
Shared hosts are for small and medium-sized email lists, up to around 25,000 users. Email policies can vary, so please inquire about limits while reassuring the host you will act professionally.
DreamHost – A great shared host for email lists smaller than one or two thousand users.
Host4Profit – Shared hosting for medium-sized email lists with upwards of 20,000 users.
Third Sphere – Shared hosting for medium-sized email lists with upwards of 20,000 users.
Domain Registration
In addition to hosting you need to register a domain. This is best done at a registrar rather than a web host who may not have provisions for you to manage your domain if you cancel your web hosting. We recommend Namecheap – they offer free DNS nameserver and forwarding services and WHOIS privacy protection.
Dedicated Servers
For email lists with more than 25,000 users and for full control over the reputation of your sending IP you should get your own server. Please familiarize yourself with company terms of use and email policies.
The Planet – Cheapest server should be fine to send email to upwards of 100,000 users.
Layered Tech – Cheapest server should be fine to send email to upwards of 100,000 users.
Please use ListMailPRO responsibly
It is up to you to make sure you do not negatively affect your shared host or dedicated server provider. We strongly discourage sending email to any list you have not built yourself. Do not use any host to clean purchased or obtained lists by asking users to confirm subscription. Such actions will quickly get your server IP blacklisted by various spam watch lists. In shared environments, this will immediately adversely affect other users. Your account would likely be shut down with grounds for punishment including forfeit of your hosting payment. Please use ListMailPRO responsibly so we can continue to recommend these fine shared and dedicated email hosting providers.
