General Help & How-To / PHP Version Reqirements
« on: August 20, 2008, 06:34:03 am »
I'm currently running an older version of PHP on the server - v 4.3.2 - and I'm considering and upgrade to PHP 5.

Will everything be okay with ListMailPro?

I found the requirements page, but it did not list a minimum version requirement and did not list if it was tested and approved with PHP 5+ (current versions).

Development, Suggestions / Quick Question About !data Field
« on: May 11, 2006, 05:26:23 pm »
I had a user try to register, but he was already registered.

But the error message did not come up properly. It just said the problem is: !data

As I look at it, it should provide the subscription error depending on what happens, those default errors are under List Settings > Errors.

Any ideas?

General Help & How-To / Help - Data from Database Gone
« on: April 19, 2006, 01:04:38 pm »
Dean,
I'm going to take a closer look at this when I get home, but it looks like all of the information from the lm_user table is gone. When I look a the database content it is showing- rows=null, type= null and 0 bytes.

Not sure what happened or when, but I just wanted to check with you before I try to recover the data. I do have a recent backup.

Everything else seems in place.

Do you have a suggestion as to how to proceed? I need to work on this tonight and will start in about two hours or so. I'm running 1.84 and after I fix the issue, I'll upgrade to 1.85.

Let me know what you think.

General Help & How-To / Getting bounce.cgi to Work
« on: October 14, 2005, 07:19:27 pm »
Dean and all,

I've been holding off on fixing this for a bit, and now I'm determined to get it to work. I'll provide all the information here and we'll see if we can get through it.

Host is ApolloHosting (damn good) and the control panel is hsp Control Panel.

Issue I'm having is that bounces are not getting removed from the active list. All other features (mailing, adding, editing) work fine.

My lists are just getting dirty with bad e-mail addresses so it's time to clean house.

Location of Files

My file structure has wget in...
bin/wget     - bin is a top level folder with boot, dev, etc, home ...
[edit: I just noticed that wget seems to also reside in usr/bin/]

I have placed bounce.cgi within...
home/username/website.com/cgi-bin/bounce.cgi

The actual HTML code for the site is located in...
home/username/website.com/html/

I have placed .procmailrc in...
home/username/website.com/

This was the suggested location in the instructions.

I have set up the cron to run dailymail, but I'm thinking that I do not need this feature. I just send mails manually, take registrations automatically through the Web site (not through e-mail address). Not even sure if the cron is working. I'm pretty certain that it is not since I'm not getting notifications that it is, OR that it is failing (strange).

bounce.cgi
Is written as follows:
$http_program = "/usr/bin/wget -O /dev/null " . $listmail_url . "/bounce.php";

Notice that this is the standard configuration. I've tried dropping the /usr part (reference structure above for wget) and I think I tried dropping /usr/ as well.

The /usr/ part confuses me since right from the IP level, I can see all of my folders via FTP - I guess you could say that I do have root access via ftp and my control panel interface.

Now that I look at it, I have a bin/ folder right at the top level (includes wget within) AND I have a usr/bin/ folder that includes wget.  Oh well, I think I've tried to target them both.

I have also tried referencing curl as I have seen in some posts.

.procmail
Is written as follows:

:0
* ^TO_bounce@domain.com
"|/home/username/domain.com/cgi-bin/bounce.cgi"

:0
* ^TO_signup12@domain.com
"|/home/username/domain.com/cgi-bin/signup-list1.cgi"

I have also tried what was in the instructions:
:0
* ^TO_bounce@yoursite.com
| /home/username/domain.com/cgi-bin/bounce.cgi

:0
* ^TO_signup@yoursite.com
| /home/username/domain.com/cgi-bin/signup-list1.cgi

Note that one version has quotes, the other does not. Also location of pipe.

Note
I had some issues with uploading this file before, I uploaded procmailrc.txt using ASCII and then renamed the file so it should be good. In the past I had an issue with spacing/characters/hard&soft returns with this file that caused issues. Somehow Dean fixed them but that was way back when I was on a shared server - now I'm on VPS.

I'm certain that the issue must be with the way I am setting up the "call" or relative/absolute reference to the filenames bounce.cgi and wget.

I'm getting the following when testing the mail servers...

Quote

Testing mail servers..

[Bounce Handling]
Is enabled?  Yes, Using bounce.cgi
Sending TESTBOUNCE email to bounce address.. Failed. Try manually sending an email to your bounce address with TESTBOUNCE in the subject line.

If you receive an email at your "Administrator Email Address" bounce.cgi is configured correctly.

[SMTP Server]
Is enabled?  Yes
Connecting to SMTP server.. Connected!
Sending test email to remote address.. Success!

If you receive an email at your "Remote Test Address" the SMTP server is configured correctly.

I'm getting e-mail to the remote test address, but nothing to the administrator e-mail address.

Any ideas?

General Help & How-To / Send E-Mail from E-Mail Client to List
« on: August 12, 2005, 07:39:16 pm »
I understand that this may be dangerous, but I have a client that will be interested in sending an e-mail to a small list (under 250) on a routine basis, but he would not want to log into ListMail and deal with sending the list from there.

He'd like to be able to send an e-mail to one address (hidden/private of course), and have ListMail send (forward) that e-mail to the people on the list.

His e-mails generally consist of about three text lines - really basic stuff. He has a "special" group that signs up for these "no-frills" e-mails.

Of course we'd use ListMail for the full HTML newsletter e-mails as normal.

Dean, is this possible?

General Help & How-To / Help with Sending Error (Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET)
« on: April 26, 2005, 03:05:49 pm »
Dean,
I'm only sending out to a list of about 900 and I got the following error:

Sending error. Check your mail settings.
Server said:
RCPT TO: <paul@scubashackct.com>
550 5.1.1 ... User unknown
550 5.1.1 ... User unknown

Sure enough, this e-mail address has the same domain from where this e-mail is being sent and the account does not exist. The mail queue just stopped with this message and did not continue.

I went to the config page and it shows there are 613 messages left. For the heck of it I went to the list and deleted that address from the list.

I was afraid to resume, but I tried it since it did not seem to be moving along and staying at 613 messages left - clicked on config button to refresh that page.

Hit resume and I got the SAME error again. Still at 613 messages left.

What to do?????

General Help & How-To / Issues When Moving to a VPS Account
« on: March 25, 2005, 06:45:48 pm »
Hey Dean,
We'll I made the move to a VPS account with ApolloHosting (good company) and I again am having some configuration issues that I may need some help with.
I'm getting all sorts of failures when I test mail and I can not figure out why.

Testing mail servers..
[Bounce Handling]
Is enabled?  Yes, Using bounce.cgi
Sending TESTBOUNCE email to bounce address.. Failed.[SMTP Server]
Is enabled?  Yes
Connecting to SMTP server.. Connected!
Verifying username and password...Authenticating User/Pass... Failed!
The SMTP server is not configured correctly. Check your settings.

I'm quite certain that I've got the STMP server settings correct. Since this is a VPS account, I've tried both 'news@domainname.com' and just 'news' for the Login ID.

The system is using Sendmail, so I uploaded the .procmailrc file as suggested and even tried naming it .rc.local.init (ringing any bells?).

I've uploaded the bounce.cgi and signup-list1.cgi files and set them to 755. I've also added a crontab.txt file (for wget???) into the home directory.

Note that this is new for me - VPS account. I'm using a "shared" e-mail system between the various domains that I manage. So, I am a bit confused about where to place the files.

I've been working on this about three hours and I just can not get it to work. If you have a suggestion concerning somthing that I missed let me know but I think I might prefer to give you access to the server and take care of it for me and provide some documentation for future reference.

The ListMail coffers would get another slight boost from me since it would be worth my time - this stuff just seems a bit beyond me.

Let me know.

General Help & How-To / Move ListMail Folder and Rename
« on: March 23, 2005, 06:20:40 pm »
Dean/All,

I'm in the process of moving my ListMail files to a different server. The new server already uses domainname.com/mail for access to Webmail.

So I need to rename the ListMail folder from mail to listmail.

For the heck of it, I tried to change the name of the folder in Dreamweaver and upload to the new site (just an IP address right now).

Got the following:
 >>>>>>>
> Warning: main(../mail/./config.php): failed to open stream: No such file or
> directory in /home/steve/scubashackct.com/html/listmail/login.php on line 7
>
> Warning: main(): Failed opening '../mail/./config.php' for inclusion
> (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in
> /home/steve/scubashackct.com/html/listmail/login.php on line 7
>
> Warning: main(../mail/./admin.php): failed to open stream: No such file or
> directory in /home/steve/scubashackct.com/html/listmail/login.php on line 8
>
> Warning: main(): Failed opening '../mail/./admin.php' for inclusion
> (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in
> /home/steve/scubashackct.com/html/listmail/login.php on line 8
>
> Fatal error: Call to undefined function: adminheader() in
> /home/steve/scubashackct.com/html/listmail/login.php on line 72
> >>>>>>>>>>>

Can you provide assistance?

Thanks,
Steve

General Help & How-To / Firefox Browser
« on: October 19, 2004, 08:57:01 am »
I've been using the Firefox browser and I like it.

But, I recently sent out an e-mail to about 1000 users on one of my lists and the application kept hanging up.

Since the counter was not moving after a long time, I did the suggestion listed on the screen and clicked on the button - I can't remember what it says.

Then, the counter would go down every time I hit that button. 0 of 898, then 0 of 868, then 0 of 845 and so on. The longer I waited between hitting that button the number would be lower.

At the end, I checked some test accounts and they did get one issue of the newsletter. But NO bounces were received (VERY unusual).

Then, I got an e-mail from someone who told me they got SIX of the e-mails (NOT good).

The test I sent out before I sent to the big list went okay and normal.

Unfortuantely, I did not document much of what happened. Any ideas?

General Help & How-To / Some E-Mails Sent are Blank
« on: September 17, 2004, 09:16:38 am »
I first started using ListMailPro a couple of years ago. On my first e-mail that went out, I had two customers let me know that they got an e-mail, along with the subject, but the e-mail itself was blank.

Turns out that both were Hotmail users, but the e-mail did get sent okay to my Hotmail account.

Yes, I am creating HTML and text messages so that is not the issue.

The issue almost always happened and I was notified by a few users that the e-mail was blank.

On the e-mail that I sent out two days ago, the business owner of the site contacted me and let me know that HE received a BLANK e-mail. He got the subject and was able to reply to the e-mail and I saw that it was indeed blank.

Get this, he's not on Hotmail. He's using an account that I created for him on the same domain that ListMailPro is on.

If anyone else has experienced this - please let me know and we can compare notes. It is difficult to troubleshoot since it is infrequent, but I'd like to track this issue and see if other users of ListMailPro experience it.

Testimonials, Feedback / Excellent Product
« on: May 03, 2004, 06:23:00 pm »
For those wondering - I'm a long-time user of the script and have been very satisfied with Dean's support.

The interface is great and the product works well.

I had no issues with installation and my client is VERY happy with the e-mails that I send out and how easy it is to clean up the db, and add new users.

Of course - since this is a private forum, I may be preaching to the choir.

Development, Suggestions / Manually Send E-Mail to Unconfirmed
« on: May 03, 2004, 06:17:44 pm »
I've already spoken to Dean about this one, but I'd like to be able to manually send out an e-mail to those users who are unconfirmed.

The e-mail would include my custom HTML and text message and would remind them to click the link to activate (since they have not activated yet). If they don't respond, I'll just blow them out of the db.

I'm using a form script now that allows me to collect private information on at a secure site for reservations. The information is written to a secure database and sends e-mail to the user and the reservation staff. The reservation staff then logs into a secure site with username/password to access the secure db with private info.

I'm very happy with the script and support I get from this company (MitriDAT - FormProcessorPro), but I'd love to be able to merge these two products somehow ... just a dream Dean.
