General Help & How-To / Confirmed user not moving to Active list??...
« on: September 03, 2006, 09:45:31 am »
...and getting multiple (annoying) please confirm messages!

Hi,

Dean just updated me to 1.87 last week. (This may or may not be related).

Seems to be working fine except for one problem. A new user emailed me and asked to be removed because "you keep sending me the same message". Looks like that message was the confirmation message (the list is set for double opt-in). I received at least 2 admin messages telling me he had been added to the list (i.e., had confirmed); however in the database, he continues to show up as unconfirmed.

I've just verified that this scenario happened to about half of my signups in the last few days (they are still in unconfirmed, although I received the admin confirmation message for them. But it doesn't seem to be happening to all. Doesnt' seem to be a pattern of where they are coming from, at least not that I can detect thus far.

I see that 1.87 has the option to send the confirmation every x days; however I have this unchecked.

Anyone else experiencing this with 1.87? Dean -- ideas on what I should do?

Thanks,
Terri Z

Development, Suggestions / Message-Id added locally??
« on: February 21, 2006, 01:44:21 pm »
I've been using a service that examines email to make sure nothing in it will trip spam filters. One warning I get with every email sent from LMP is this:
Quote
Message envelope failed 1 compliance check.

Message-Id for external message added locally.
The mandatory "Message-ID" header was missing from the email you sent and was added by the receiving mail server.

Of course this is Greek to me...is this a real problem? How can I fix it?

Thanks,
Terri Z

General Help & How-To / spam bounce being processed by listmail?
« on: December 17, 2005, 09:46:28 am »
Someone sent a spam message to a valid email address on our server. It bounced (no idea why), but more importantly, it caused ListMail to remove this address from one of the lists. Here is the message:

From: ListMail Notification
Sent: Thursday, December 15, 2005 11:37 AM
Subject: List 2: Bouncing User Removed

A user has been removed from your list: Contributor Newsletter

Their information was as follows:

Email: <snip>
First Name: Amy
Last Name: Ewart

IP Address: Unknown
Ref. URL: Manually Added

---------- The bouncing message follows ----------

<snip>

Any ideas on why/how this could happen?

First--what a great script. And Dean is great about working with this community to keep improving things. :)

Here's my top 5 list of things I'm looking for next/soon, in priority order:
1. A way to track emails delivered and/or opened
2. Ability for user to manage their subscriptions (check/uncheck the boxes for the lists they want to be on)
3. Export link tracking data to an Excel file.
4. As mentioned above, ability to add followups between existing followups without getting existing users out of sync
5. Also as mentioned above, improvements to eliminate the manual kickstart if something gets stuck while sending (about once a month, we somehow end up sending multiple copies to folks because of this)

General Help & How-To / bounce processing error
« on: September 28, 2005, 11:43:12 am »
Dean,
I've moved (actually exported and imported, leaving the original list alone) some users from list 5 to list 16.

After I send out a note to list 16, when there is a bounce, they get put on the bounce list for list 5 -- but not 16.

Seems like a bug--I have to manually delete/bounce folks from list 16!

Thanks,
Terri Z

Development, Suggestions / bounce processing error?
« on: August 14, 2005, 09:58:03 am »
Dean, as requested, here is that error we saw:

Someone bounced on list 1. Their email/info was moved properly to the list
1 bounce. However, instead of the email notifying me about their bounce coming from the list 1 admin email, it came from list 11...and the email referenced them being removed from list 11 (although they clearly were never on that list and nothing happened in Listmail in list 11).

This has not happened before (to my knowledge), and we've had lists 1 and 11 around for a while.

We use bounce.cgi

Thanks!
Terri Z

Someone posted a useful script here: http://listmailpro.com/forum/index.php?topic=29.msg3249 for how to import hit statistics into Excel.

However, for us non-programmers, it's a little daunting. Could we get this built into ListMail as a feature?

Pretty Please?

Thanks!

OK, I've got multi-list subscribe working. The thing is, I only want them to have to click one email to confirm (double-opt in). So, I've set up one list for confirmation, the other is not.

However, if I do this, and they don't click the link in the one email they get, they end up subscribed to the other list without opting-in.

Any ideas on how to get around this?

Thanks,
Terri Z

General Help & How-To / signup-xtra.php script?? what is that?
« on: June 24, 2005, 07:13:50 am »
When I add users manually, there is a checkbox that says:

Run the signup-xtra.php script after adding?

This is new in the latest version (I've never seen it before). What does it mean??

Development, Suggestions / two questions about Link Tracking page
« on: May 30, 2005, 06:01:40 pm »
1. would it be possible to add a stretch feature to the Link Title and URL boxes on this page? Some of our links and titles are quite long...

2. would it be possible to sort the links by title (or URL?) in addition to message code?

Thanks,
Terri Z

Development, Suggestions / Manage subscription code?
« on: March 17, 2005, 05:02:34 pm »
Most ezine's I subscribe to have two links at the bottom: One to unsubscribe (available in LM) and one to manage my subscription. Clicking on such a link automatically brings up my info, in boxes that I can overwrite to change my first name, last name, html vs. text preference, etc. This is not available yet in LM (unless I've missed it) -- any chance it is coming soon?

Thanks,
Terri Z

General Help & How-To / followups stopped working
« on: November 21, 2004, 02:09:21 pm »
My followups were working great but now they've just stopped! I haven't changed anything (that I know of) and followups work on another ListMail installation that is on my server (so I know it's not a php version issue).

Any other ideas of what we should be checking to see what changed?

Thanks,
Terri Z and Jeff Morrow

General Help & How-To / Some members not getting emails
« on: November 03, 2004, 08:17:08 am »
I have an issue where some members who are clearly on the list (and do not have spam filters on their machines) are no longer getting my newsletter (and want to be!) None of them are AOL or Yahoo accounts (all are on their own servers.)

1. I see from another post that v1.77 of ListMail is suggested. How do I figure out what version I have now?

2. I have heard about mailing list services, where part of their service is a pre-scan of outgoing emails -- basically they analyze your emails to see if you've said anything that would set off the spam filters. You can then edit to get a better score (more likely to pass the filters.) Does anyone know of such a scan program/site that is not associated with a fee service?

3. This isn't a ListMail question per se, but what would be the recommended course of action if someone isn't getting my emails? Obviously they are going out from ListMail (at least I and many others I know are getting them). Should I suggest to those members that they contact their ISPs???

4. Any other ideas out there?

Thanks in advance,
Terri Z
