Server Optimization, Tweaks / Confirmation
« on: July 13, 2007, 05:05:26 pm »
Well, what fun is it to talk about my server and not jump in the thread?!

Here's a completely unbiased, neutral, testimonial:

You both are great. Seriously. Between Dean helping us get things set up and Mike coming in to make the handful of changes that needed tweaking, our lists now run on their own!!

Now I know that likely sounds odd, especially to all of the LMP pros out there...but up until working with both Dean and Mike, I used to have to babysit my LMP through entire campaigns....of 300-400K! That translates into a lot of sleepless nights.

Trust me, LMP now runs with the Auto Resume script and the campaign, once started will finish even without the browser being open! No more staying up to click resume.

Dean- I don't know if it's possible, but it may be a good idea to add what Mike did for our server to the list of recommended tweaks for others to be able to benefit from it as well.

Thank you both for your help in optimizing one of the single best marketing tools developed.

Sincerely,

Andrew

I'll tell you, I know enough to know that this whole thing is over my head and I need to get some help.

I may consider helping you out with this sendmail part if you wish, maybe for a small fee ( Dean I hope you don't mind me doing this here, if so erase this and let me know ).

I'm guessing if your system is pretty normal I could do it for say $50.  If you wish to discuss it further PM me on here and I will give you my email address and we can talk further, thanks.

EDIT - Just noticed PM was disabled so email me:  <edited>

As for the "how" part, well that can be a bit more complicated and I highly suggest reading up on it, maybe the documentation at sendmail.org. Hope that helps.

Mike - Thank you!

But thank you for the post.

Server Optimization, Tweaks / How to Modify SendMail?
« on: July 12, 2007, 11:26:06 am »
Hi Mike,

Per DW, this seems like the solution that would greatly assist us as our SMTP sending continues to timeout with a Server 250 error after sending only 50-1000 emails. Our lists are several thousand so we weren't sure what to do.

Only thing is, how/where do you modify the sendmail.mc file?

We're working on our own dedicated server - so we've got access to do as required.

Thank you!!

I use sendmail and never have this problem... because it's configured properly ( well mostly ).

What you want to do is make sure sendmail is in queue mode, so it queues the messages first, then when it runs the queue it delivers them ( or attempts to).

Here's some code for the sendmail.mc file, the first one puts it in queue mode, the last few make sure no dns lookup is done on the initial pass from LMP to sendmail:

Code: [Select]

define(`confDELIVERY_MODE', `q')

define(`confDONT_PROBE_INTERFACES', `true')
define(`confDIRECT_SUBMISSION_MODIFIERS', `C')
define(`confBIND_OPTS', `-DNSRCH -DEFNAMES')
FEATURE(`nocanonify', `canonify_hosts')

Let me know if that helps.  If you are familiar with sendmail this will make sense, if not it will be crazy...   rebuild your .cf file and restart sendmail.

Development, Suggestions / FeedBlitz RSS to ListMail
« on: December 07, 2006, 09:42:24 pm »
Well, I've given this a lot of thought....

I am really interested in completing the circle between our company blog, our RSS feeds from FeedBlitz and distributing the already formatted email (from RSS feeds) out to my ListMail database.

Is it possible to develope a WordPress plugin or a LM script that will connect or pull the Feedblitz feeds/ emails and be able to distribute the html and plain text email to my databases?

This type of solution means that I can contain my databases on my own server instead of uploading them to FeedBlitz's website.  The end result is I just want easily distribute their pre-formatted emails without the labor require to set up and test html emails.

Open to ideas thoughts, input, testing,  and of course Dean's help to make this happen.

Thanks,
Andrew

General Help & How-To / SMTP Bug
« on: August 13, 2005, 09:03:38 pm »
DW-

That's great. And we you can test with an open queue of 45K plus.
I'll stop the mailing, set things up and hand over the keys. Maybe we'll learn something.

Thanks,
Andrew

General Help & How-To / Same issue
« on: August 13, 2005, 05:39:48 pm »
Hi there-

I am experiencing the same issue. SMTP is stopping every 1000 and needs to be resumed. I tried decreasing the reconnect down to 850 or so but that didn't do the trick. I've tried various combinations on the AUTH etc...

I noticed that DW posted an SMTP "bugfix" in the previous post, but the link is no longer valid. Is the bugfix still necessary? If so, where can I pick it up? Or...was it incorporated into LM1.83 just released?

As of now I am only able to send via the php option.

Any suggestions..??

Thanks,

Andrew

I know this isn't that hard, but I just can't figure it out.
Anychance you could help me with it. Just point me in the right direction?

I tried copying the script as is, adjusting per my posts above,
but even when I move the hits-wq.php file into my LM directory (M3)
I still am receiving the feabled error message:

Could not select database<br><small>MySQL Error: No Database Selected</small>can't select database, does it exist?

I know I can get this to work and it would be a major time saver for me.
Appreicate your help.

Server Optimization, Tweaks / 405,000+
« on: August 12, 2005, 08:29:31 pm »
Great topic.
Good input from all.

Our primary list topped 405K this week. Big. Very big.
I also just moved to a new server w/Cpanel- so great timing DW with
the LMP import fix.

It seems like everyone's working pretty hard to manage the bigger lists, between throttling, primary key fixes (maybe from another post), running on two machines...

We're not very technical, so we needed a clean, simple solution. Knowing that we've run successfulyl with lists in the 30-40K range, I decided to take our master list and split it by 50K each, done alphabetically with Mailloop's listp processor, and catalogued alphabetically to keep track of where we were within the database.

So far so good. Looking at it now we sitting at 2.11 emails per second on the first list. I plan to queue them up seperately and run each list individually.

Just wanted to share what we've done, thought I would sure be interested in any easy to implement solutions to tweak, modify or seriously expedite things to reach the 10-12K per-hour mark.

Thanks for all your input.

Thank you, I'll give that a run....
Then probably ask DW for help.

Appreciate your time and thanks for the intro to Excel Web Queries.

General Help & How-To / This is a tough one
« on: August 12, 2005, 06:42:18 pm »
Hi there-

I think if I am understanding you are looking to reverse the order of first name and last name. You might want to import your database into Excel and manipulate the data there first, then proceed to reimport back into ListMail.

Help me understand better and I'll see if I can provide you a better solution.

Customization, Integration / It's a good thing...
« on: August 12, 2005, 06:09:02 pm »
It's a good think I am not trying to make a living as a programmer.

Thanks for your help.

I know that I am close, while I am not sure how to "Comment Out" the
password section , if you mean delete the entire line, then I can do that, but when trying again, I receive a line 22 error message.

If I leave the password in there, then make sure that it matches the passoword from the top line as well as the web query, I receive this error:

Could not select database<br><small>MySQL Error: No Database Selected</small>can't select database, does it exist?

I am sorry I am not better at PHP, but I sure appeciate your help.
Thanks so much,

Andrew Golden
