Email Web Hosting / New email web hosting service
« on: July 28, 2011, 05:44:27 am »
It's been a long time since I visited these forums, brings back old memories...

I figured I'd post and let anyone who was interested know that I was now offering email friendly web hosting...

No spam allowed of course, very strict on that... It also comes with a bit newer autoresponder than Listmail but you should also be able(?) to use listmail if you wanted...

Here's my shameless plug for it:

SPF, DKIM, dedicated IP, full hosting control panel, etc...

General Help & How-To / Interest in continued "Listmail Pro" like developm
« on: December 17, 2009, 09:50:36 am »
I have been considering this for a while and figured I'd throw up a post for some existing listmail users out there...

I am considering taking a fork of Listmail Pro and continuing it's development.

Under a new name of course and new code, etc, but it would be listmail pro - ish ( at first ) until further changes are made, etc...

I really just want to get a feel for what kind of response and support there would be for something like this out there?  I would also even consider offering email marketing specific hosting, etc like dean did at one point.

Please feel free to throw in any kind of feedback, etc, thanks!

Customization, Integration / List Purge / Permission Pass
« on: April 30, 2008, 08:36:31 am »
I'm getting ready to move to a new server and want to make sure my list is squeaky clean.

I want to do a list purge / permission pass...   Here's what I want to do:

I want to email everyone letting them know I will be doing a list purge of everyone who hasn't clicked a link from my mailings in the past 6-12 months or so and provide a LM Tracking link for them to click.

I then want to later purge ( actually move to a new list ) all the folks on list 1 who haven't clicked any of my tracking links that I have in LM.

So basically:  Any user on List 1 who has not clicked on any of my tracking links needs moved to say list 26 or whatever list.  They should keep all of their info including IP, Ref URL, and status ( active, bounced ) etc, etc.

Dean,  I know this would take a special page and a bit of coding, could you help me with it?  I'd be happy to pay a small fee for doing this.  Please let me know asap as I need to move on this today!

I have set up a site for my team members to use for lead generation and am using Listmail and small php files as a kind of like small affiliate system.

It works easily and there are only a few handful of members, so I just did it this way, but here is what I need:

I keep the users info in a small php file named say "12345.php" and when the member promotes the site, they use "index.php?ref_id=12345" as their ID tracking.  Listmail stores this ID as an optional field when prospects fill out the form for additional details via email.

The problem I need solved is that I would like Listmail/PHP to take the ID#, inspect the file associated with it, extract the Team members email address and also forward them a copy of the Lead so they can follow up with them.

I'd guess this could be done in signup-extra, but being a PHP noob, I could use a push in the right direction on the easiest way to make this happen.
Oh yea, this should only be done for 1 of my lists.

Dean or any other PHP person got any pointers?

Ok I have a list where I know everyone that would sign up to it, but sometimes they might not actually know how to confirm there signup. ( parents, grand-parents, etc.).

I could simply make it non confirmed opt-in, but I still want to keep people from putting in crap on the form should an outsider find it.

I know the MySql code to change unconfirmed users to confirmed on this list, but that won't send them my welcome message.  What I need is a simple page or something that will change them to confirmed and send them the welcome message right away.

General Help & How-To / Bounce problem?
« on: February 26, 2007, 08:15:02 am »
Dean,

Just realized something weird, I had got a few bounces for an email that was similar to my own previously but disregarded them.

This time I took a closer look and realized what actually happened.  Someone was being goofy and tried to subscribe like this:

Code: [Select]
Email: MIKE@EXAMPLE.COM
First Name: SALMAN-ALRAJHI@HOTMAIL.COM
Last Name:

Now my email address is mike@example.com, so this bounced and what was bouncing was the confirmation request email.

The problem is that I've seen this same email like 5 times, so apparently during the bounce the email address isn't being removed properly, i'd guess bounce isn't setup to handle unconfirmed emails?

General Help & How-To / Warning on SQL Check
« on: October 12, 2006, 10:42:59 am »
I was checking my DB with mysqlcheck to make sure there was nothing wrong with it, because of an error not getting emails when importing to list 1, (I posted a seperate topic on this).

And got a warning on the lm_hits table, here it is:

Code: [Select]
maoptin.lm_hits
warning  : Datafile is almost full, 1067906 of 1114110 used
status   : OK

Let me know if this is serious and what I should do, thanks.

General Help & How-To / No email being sent on import only to list 1
« on: October 12, 2006, 10:31:48 am »
When I try to import a user or users to list 1, no email gets sent, be it a confirmation or welcome email.  The users are imported ok, as they are on the list, no problem there.

I've tried to import my own email several times, changing things like "Send welcome email", "Send confirmation email", etc, etc...  No luck, I never get an email and I check the maillog and nothing.

The wierd thing is when I import the same email(s) into list 2 or list 17 in the same exact manner, it works fine.  I get the confirmation or welcome email almost instantly.

One other thing, when I do an import to list 1, even if I delete the 2 emails I am importing first, It always seems to say:  Imported:  2 Users, 1 duplicates, but then it says it's sending 2 emails.  This is wierd and does this everytime, even if I import only 1 email, it says 1 user, 1 duplicate...

Any clues what could be causing this?

Customization, Integration / Question about link tracking
« on: July 22, 2006, 02:40:54 pm »
I have "track users" enabled in my link tracking, I want to delete some of my tracked links cause the db is getting big and a bit bulky (well not really too big, but I wanna get rid of some old links).

My question is if I delete the link will the clicks that were tracked be deleted properly also?

In other words I don't want to go deleting a bunch of my old tracked links if the tracked clicks don't get deleted with it also as this would just keep a bunch of junk around, does this make sense Dean?

I just wanted to post a quick note/warning about upgrading past V1.85 if you have an older version of PHP ( < 4.3.0 ).

I went straight to 1.87 from 1.85, so I'm not sure if this applies to going from 1.85 to 1.86 or not.

Because of the "stream_set_timeout" command added, your version of PHP must be 4.3.0 or greater or you'll find yourself not being able to send an email.  Everything else will work ok, but you can't email.

I found myself upgrading my whole box from Redhat 9 to Fedora Core because of this.  Needless to say it took some time.  I could have just built a new version of PHP, but with the way the box was setup it was just as easy to upgrade it all.  Either way it will take some time.

My reason for this post is two fold.  1)  I hope it may help someone else who upgrades to be able to plan ahead first and be ready.  Or at least check to make sure their PHP version is past 4.3.0.

And maybe more importantly, 2)  Dean, I don't know how feasible this is, but when you add commands like that and see that is requires a certain version of PHP or whatever, maybe you could add a quick note to the changes file or something.  This way we can do a quick check first and not be taken by suprise.

Ok, I searched for something similar but couldn't find it, even though I'm sure I saw something like this before.

What I want to do is when someone places and order from my site I want to:

1)  Check if there email exists on list 2 (confirmed or not), if so, simply move them to list 1, with a seq of 99 (so they don't get that lists followups) and change to confirmed.

2)  If they aren't on list 2 or on list 1, add there email to list 1 with a seq of 99.

3) If they are on list 1 already, change there seq to 99 and confirmed (if not already).

If you could help with the PHP code to accomplish this, I'd throw it in at the end of my order system, thanks a ton!

The most seriously when I got an email from someone who tried to confirm their subscription via email, he emailed me this and indeed when I tried to click his confirm link I got the same message.  Note he did actually get subscribed to the list.  Here's what he emailed to me:

Please Help, this is somewhat urgent.  I have also PM'd and emailed you this.

This also sort of relates to this thread:

UPDATE:  I just checked and it's worse then I thought, when clicking a remove link, I get the same thing.  I'm guessing something didn't get updated correctly for me?

Development, Suggestions / Possible bug found?
« on: November 22, 2005, 12:17:02 pm »
I just noticed while working on another listmail project that I may have found a small bug...

I've been uploading single opt-in leads to email my confirmation request to attempt to get them to double-opt-in.  I just noticed in the /tmp directory of my server that there are some files there over a week old owned by apache.

Upon examining these files, they are the lead files I have been importing.  I'm guessing these should be getting deleted after importing but aren't.  Not a HUGE deal, but on a shared server if someone could get access to these files it may not be good.
