General Help & How-To / Re: Forward incoming email to mailing list
« on: October 23, 2016, 11:26:32 am »
Scott,

It's easier if you just setup forwarding on the email address directly on the server... however you'll have to remove all those forwards when you're done.  There's a way to write a shell script (Linux/Unix) to do that, instead of trying to write that auto-forward PHP script you speak of.  Writing that auto-forward script is frowned on by most hosting providers, and most do not even allow it any more, or if they do, it's not reliable.

The forwards I speak of can be done from cPanel, just click on Forward, and select the FROM, and enter the TO address, the email does not look like a forward (I don't believe), it's just a straight copy of the original email to the TO address.

I hope that helps... if you wish further assistance, I would be happy to work with you on this, for my standard consulting fees, contact me at the page listed below (in my signature).

Hi Scott,

Sure that's possible.  I'm still not sure exactly what you are wanting to do though, can you explain more?  You currently have a list stored in ListMail, and also on another server?  So, when the alert comes from the other server that server is 'down', you want to then start sending the email from ListMail?  Because that's the only way I see that working, you would have to maintain the list in both ListMailPRO, perhaps both are ListMailPRO installations, but either way, you would have to maintain the list on 2 servers, to make sure that is happening properly...

Even then, there are better ways to handle that.  I maintain my lists in several email software applications (and providers) so if a server goes down, I just send from the other email provider, or other software application, instead of trying to maintain a duplicate list in LMP across 2 servers.

One problem with handling it all with LMP, is that LMP is not as accurate in removing bounces correctly, and it's better to maintain the correct list in another software application, such as Sendy (or SparkPost), etc... then duplicate the list(s) back to LMP on another server.

Server Optimization, Tweaks / Re: 1and1.com
« on: September 25, 2016, 05:30:01 pm »
Steve,

You can request your current host to have the IP address removed from the blacklist, and to move your server IP to a different address.
Most blacklisted IP's can also be petitioned through the blacklister to be removed from the list, even by someone that is not the host, or you
can ask the host to petition that it be removed.

Also, you can keep track and monitor that best with MX Toolbox at:
http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx

There are only a handful of 'good hosts' left that can handle large email sends, it's not an easy task these days...

Good luck!

General Help & How-To / Re: Old Mails lost after Server-Migration
« on: September 12, 2016, 07:38:33 am »
Hi Uwe,

I would think you did not move the content field properly in the lm_sent table (lm_sent->content) which is defined as Medium Text.  Check the collation type as well, make sure it is: utf8_general_ci , or the same you are coming from.

How did you do the migration?  I usually do this with MySQLDump on the command line, and then import via MySQL on the command line, NOT trying to do it through PHPMyAdmin or any similar type of program.  It's best to work with the raw data using dumped data from MySQL on the command line, and to import it on the command line.  It's also much faster to do it this way.

I can help you do this if you like, I can also tune your application to make it more efficient, and faster sending, and do much more.  Just contact me at my Contact page indicated (in my signature below).  My minimum charge is $40.

Let me know if you have any other questions?

Customization, Integration / SparkPost integration via TLS?
« on: September 01, 2016, 07:56:05 am »
After all the posting about Amazon SES and the troubles getting it going (and keep it going), I've decided to try another Email provider: SparkPost. SparkPost allows 100,000 free emails every month, after that you pay at a price that is about double what it costs for Amazon SES, but if it works and some of the other issues are not there, it is worth it.

SparkPost allows SMTP connection for sending directly on it's: smtp.sparkpostmail.com server.  You use standard Auth Login ID, and Password.

The only catch is that SparkPost requires TLS support to make that connection, and I cannot get that to work properly in ListMailPRO.   I've tried updates to the Editconf.php file, just to see if I can connect to TLS on port 567, and every time I try, I get this error:
--
SSL operation failed with code 1. OpenSSL Error messages: error:1408F10B:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number in /home/mydomain/public_html/mail/editconf.php on line 1917
Could not say EHLO.

The SMTP server is not configured correctly. Check your settings.
---

Notice how it is always 'wrong version number', so I asked my host to configure me back to OpenSSL version 1.x, hoping that would solve the problem, it does not.

Does anyone have any idea how to get this running?  Has anyone ran LMP with SparkPost?

General Help & How-To / Re: First Name 'undefined'
« on: August 29, 2016, 09:16:50 pm »
Hi Steve,

I could help you with that, but it requires a trouble-shooting call, and work from my end. My minimum charge is $80.00, feel free to contact me directly on my Contact Us page at:
http://www.bgswebdesign.com/Contact-Us.php

I can also tune your LMP installation to make sure it is sending at the best possible rate, and working well for you.  I've done this with many clients, and I am comfortable working on
ListMailPRO in any type of server environment.

General Help & How-To / Re: SMTP with Amazon SES Problem
« on: August 29, 2016, 09:13:15 pm »
Steve,

Amazon SES does allow all types of email, you can see that here:
https://aws.amazon.com/ses/faqs/

Where it says:
Quote
Amazon SES can reliably deliver merchandising, subscription, transactional, and notification email messages.

And in their AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) here:
https://aws.amazon.com/aup/

Maybe you misread this part about promotions, but the kind they do NOT allow are clearly indicated:
Quote
promotions (e.g., make-money-fast schemes, ponzi and pyramid schemes, phishing, or pharming)

I've had some issues with Amazon SES, that I've always been able to clear up, usually it's when I've sent to an older list (with bounce rates over 5%), etc...
I've been sending with Amazon SES for over 3 years and my Quota is at the highest you can go with over 1 M (1 million) emails/day maximum, so you can see
I am not experiencing problems sending through them.

Either way, if you mail responsibly and you keep your bounce rate down by doing better Email verification, such as using a service like:
http://www.bulkemailchecker.com/ or:
https://email-verify.my-addr.com/
you should be fine.

I think you may have misread their terms, or maybe confused their SMS (text message) terms which do say that you cannot send promotions, here:
https://aws.amazon.com/service-terms/

Which clearly do say you cannot use Amazon SNS, or SMS messages for
Quote
advertisements or promotions for commercial products, goods or services; or

Either way, I've been looking at others services which might fill in, and you might want to consider this, I've had a look at SparkPost which seems
to be very good at deliverability, and may not have as many issues with your sending, you can find out more at:
https://www.sparkpost.com/

Good luck, let us know how it turns out for you...

Hi Steve,

I just checked and I am running; MySQL Version    5.1.73-cll.   I've not run it on those higher versions of MySQL, and I've not had any clients running on that version either.

If you had it running fine on MySQL 5.5, I would consider dropping back to an earlier version of MySQL.  If you need someone to help with that transition, contact me at
my page (you can also call during normal business hours - please leave a message if I am unavailable and I will get back to you right away):
http://bgswebdesign.com/Contact-Us.php

I can help troubleshoot and fix, as well as tune your LMP installation, I've installed and tuned LMP installations on over 20 different hosts (all over the world, throughout Europe,
Asia, and the USA) so I am familiar with anything that needs to be done to tune your setup. My minimum charge is $80.00.

Hi Steve,

The easiest way would be to sign-in to your account and download it, which you do at this link:
https://listmailpro.com/login

Let me know how you get along, if you're moving or updating there are several things you can do to tune your installation.

Development, Suggestions / Re: A way forward for ListMail
« on: August 08, 2016, 10:46:52 am »
Hi Dean,

I've been looking around here, as I'm still using ListMailPRO and there are many features unmatched by any other mail software. I know you've posted some help and support, but I wonder if you are still planning on updating ListMailPRO?

Quote
so it could be a few weeks or more until I have an update to announce, but it is surely coming.

It's been 3 years now since that post, and still no update.

Can you please fill in the owners & users of LMP if you are planning an update, and when it may come about?

Hi Franklin,

Did you get this working with Amazon SES?  I'm interested in knowing if you had success with it, or not?  Also, which host are you using?  I would not attempt it unless I was at least on VPS.

General Help & How-To / Re: Queue stuck
« on: January 28, 2016, 12:26:56 pm »
DW,

Thank you for that code to unstick my Queue, I'm still not sure why it happens (queue sticks every day), after years of running just fine, but your code runs perfectly and gets things running again!

Most likely then, is it because the script is timing out, is that the problem?

General Help & How-To / Re: Queue stuck
« on: January 14, 2016, 12:45:35 pm »
Hi DW,

Does this code: $file_version>1.88 indicate ListmailPRO version 1.88, or is that related to mysql?  I am running version 1.85 of ListmailPRO.

A few things.
1.) I do have the Zero Byte SMTP logs all the time, so I'm guessing the script is timing out, but why would it start doing that now when it's been running fine for 12 years?  I will run your test scripts and see
what I come up with.
2.) Thanks a million for the Band-Aid, is it better to run that by itself, or to put that code directly in resume.php? If I run it directly with a cronjob, can I run it every 5 minutes, or so? It appears it would do what I'm doing manually, checking that there is a 'q' in completed, change it to '0' and let that queue start sending.

I know that once I set completed to '0', the emails go out, as I can see them sending out as the queue size goes down as sending proceeds - are you suggesting that those emails may not be sending out - if the script times out?

That's a huge enlightment, as that would mean that anything I'm sending out, even large broadcasts, that I send to 70,000 or more would NOT be going out if the script times out, is that correct? The reason I ask, is that last week I've sent out several times to over 70,000 and I've seen a few times, where I did actually get the 'last screen' showing that ALL Messages sent, how fast they sent, etc...  in other words, it appears those very large sends were not timing out, would that be correct?  While often I will see the screen that says SMTP error, but then the Resume script keeps them going out... at least that's what I thought.

I will post here next with the results from the timeout script, to let you know what that shows.

Thanks a ton!
