Did you ever find the answer to this? I'm wondering the same thing.

Worked fine for me on all three of my sites. About 18 months ago went from MYSQL 4 to 5.1x.  Works great still!  Dean made great code, although he is no longer around.

General Help & How-To / Re: Problems with Umlaut in subject
« on: June 15, 2012, 05:05:44 pm »
Is this in HTML or plain text?

If it's in plain text, that would be a problem; it's based on system defined character sets. So you are limited by the systems you are sending to.

If it's HTML, you might lookup for markup code that is its equivalent by doing a BING search.

Wondering the same thing.  I know Dean wrote some good code, so it should last for sometime.  It's working well on PHP 5.3 which is a menace for most scripts.

Server Optimization, Tweaks / MySQL Upgrade Error Line on Dailymail
« on: January 23, 2011, 08:43:19 am »
I recently upgraded my MYSQL from 4.1 to 5.1x.  Ever since I have noticed that when daily mail runs.  I see this error line:

Warning: mysql_free_result(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/mysite/public_html/listmail/dailymail.php on line 485

I'm guessing it's a depreciated error.  Everything is working the error just pops up.  Any ideas guys?

Thanks for any input.

To this day I have no trouble with Yahoo on that server.  Other servers that I have not done that to still have some trouble time and again.

General Help & How-To / I figured it out..
« on: November 19, 2008, 03:43:18 am »
My host made a few changes making it difficult to send out.  I replaced the line:

In admin.php search for the line "function calc32" and change the entire function to:
Code:
function calc32($size=32){
 $unique_str = md5(uniqid(rand(), true));
 return substr($unique_str,0,$size);
}

Found it in another post.

I rebooted the server and same deal.

Any idea?

General Help & How-To / Just to confirm.
« on: September 07, 2008, 05:49:22 pm »
Just to back up what Dean was saying.

I upgrade from PHP 4.4.8 to a dual (4.4.8/5.2.6 PHP) version.  It works awesome in all version.

Honestly beside Vbulletin, it was the only set of scripts I have never had a problem with at all when upgrading anything on my server.  Super reliable.

I submit probably 4 tickets to Yahoo to finally get it fixed.

They wait 5 days and then send you this huge questionnaire to fill out. The first three times I spent about 20 minutes filling it out.  They contacted me 5 days later each time and said, we really can't do anything.

The forth time I said f*ck-it I'll spend an hour writing the questionnaire response so that any idiot can understand how messed up Yahoo's policy is.  They sent me a 5 page questionnaire, I sent them back a 20 response.

Guess what 3 days later they lifted the delay on my IP.  I'm by no means  white listed, but those emails aren't sitting in queue for 2-3 days anymore.

Email Web Hosting / Data393
« on: November 28, 2007, 11:14:55 am »
I've been using Data393, previously Ventures Online for about 10 years now.  Their support is unreal. Usually within 10 minutes with a ticket or quick phone call.  They are bit pricey-  $349/mo. for the base package.  My servers are $550 each with RH, extra RAM, and Triple redundant backup.

But, I have to tell you, I sleep a lot easier with them.  I haven't had downtime in about 18 months.   I had a bad drive 18 months ago, by the way they fixed that within 15 minutes without me even asking.

I love D393!

Email Web Hosting / To VPS or not?
« on: November 28, 2007, 06:20:38 am »
Hey Dean and Company,

My 2 dedicated servers are starting to max out email wise.  I'm sending close to 150K emails every other day to my opt-in lists.

I was thinking of purchasing a VPS package from somebody for 1 or 2 of my lists.  Could I send to a 150K emails via VPS, once a week.  I could throttle it to send over 1-3 days, no problem.  Is that do-able?

Any recommendations on VPS hosts?

Everybody seems to love:
