[Dev] v1.8 Update Status Report
« on: February 28, 2005, 10:36:26 am »
v1.8 has been released for general testing! Click Here

----

Took a bit of a break for the weekend.

Spent Thu and Fri modularizing Custom HTML and Error Messages.  You are now able to save "sets" of HTML and apply them to lists and codes at will.  This change paves the way for a wider variety of forms, remove, and confirm links.  I know you will favor it over the old system.

I've finished some features, such as Selective Sending, and have made other improvements, such as modularizing the message editing page and making the program more friendly with your data and input.

I know a number of you have been waiting on Selective Sending so I am making a release my priority.  Once I've finished with the Custom HTML (1 day) and the global remove link (1/2 day) I will be updating the documentation (1 day) making a few more minor adjustments (1-2 days) and then it will be let out!

After that, I'm going to blast through even more major changes very quickly!

Keep an eye on the forum for more frequent updates.  8)

I'm not quite on schedule but am making good progress.    It's possible that I could have something released in the next week or two!  Features are being completed and many useful improvements are popping into my head as I go.  After this update much more is coming, so expect ListMail to continue to perform as one of your best investments!

That's great news!  Can you please post the current features that you are completing and also the improvements so that others may make useful comments/dialog while you are updating?  I think it would be helpful.

I know that all of us are really looking forward to a brand new LMP with Rule Based Sending, and many other great things it's going to be a huge release!!!
Thanks,
-Brett

Well, there will be a lot of things missing that I would have liked to get in for this update, (such as checkboxes on the user page, etc)  but that's what future updates can be for.  As I mentioned somewhere else, once this release is out there will be many more changes made quickly.

Here's the Changes.txt so far:

Quote
- renamed remove.php to rem.php due to SpamAssassin scoring.  remove.php no longer packaged
- added "HTML Remove Confirm" message code for use on Remove Confirm Custom HTML pages.
- modularized custom HTML and error messages.  can now apply single templates to more than one list
- fixed bugs in SMTP where non-success RCPT responses (sendmail) were causing problems.  now ignored but will be considered for processing
- added ability to save more user database display preferences
- added welcome and confirmation messages on import
- added customizable confirm button message code for double opt-in
- added field number display on user editing page so one knows which custom fields are which
- added maintenance options on config page for sent messages, tracked hits, and unconfirmed users
- added primary index on the queue table field 'id' for faster sending to large lists
- cleaned up database, removed some unneeded fields from config and list tables
- modularized all email editing pages (followups, send email, dailymail, scheduler) to allow for save/load, admin preview
- added selective sending for sending to sub lists based on search results, date added, etc.

Here's what's next, then I'll release:
Quote
- implement error msgs and custom html into signup & remove. (almost done, a small bug in signup.php needs to be fixed) (30 mins)
- provide ability to choose a page to jump to instead of using custom html (easy, 30 mins)
- test new rem cnf ht button (easy, 10 mins)
- finish new remove link (few hours)
- modularize welcome / confirm (hour or two)
- fix scheduler date fields on quickpage (display fix, somewhat tricky, 45 mins)
- make custom fields able to be required, with error messages (hour or two)
-update all documentation (couple hours)

So, as you can see, I'm not far off.  Of course, everything usually takes twice as long as estimated. :) A few days of hard work this week should get me through!

I've been working away.  The Custom HTML and Global/Multi Remove changes are both finished. Here's what's left:

Quote
- modularize welcome / confirm (hour or two)
- fix scheduler date fields on quickpage (display fix, somewhat tricky, 45 mins)
- make custom fields able to be required, with error messages (hour or two)
-update all documentation (couple hours)

It won't be long now!

Hi DW,

How's it going on the new release?  Just curious.. .any chance you can release what you have, and save what's left for a follow-up release, it would allow many to use the new version and get some testing in for you on errors/bugs etc.

One question, appears a problem with my own hosting company possibly for sending too many emails, are there plans for including a setting in the new version, for example, allow sending 1,000 Emails/hour?   After checking new hosts that seems to be the new way that requirements are setup, xxx Emails/hour and having a setting for this would be perfect...
Thanks,
-Brett

The update is nearly finished, I'm just doing some final testing today to make sure the upgrade process is flawless and re-verifying that selective sending is working properly and then I plan to let it out for general testing.  I will be releasing without two expected features, required custom fields and improved date dropdowns on the scheduler page.  I figure everyone who needed custom fields to be required has used a JavaScript workaround so it will not affect them if this is left for the release after next.  The scheduler change is cosmetic.

A lot of hosts do have email limits but as of yet there is not a plan to implement such delays for SMTP.  With a limitation of 1000/hr you might be running a PHP script for over 24 hours if your list is 25,000 members, which I do not recommend.  Why not go with DreamHost?  They have no limits and are fully supportive of ListMail for $7.95/mo.  If you don't go with them at least promote them, as they offer $97 for every referral you make!
